Gold Coins III - Single

by Jamie Flett

/
1.
There were little leaves like gold coins on the ground today A flock of golden feathers between tall towers here and Across the way But so few of the bells will ring before the gold has Withered now to grey The leaves of hope will fall As the sun sets and rises Wind will blow them all As the tide sweeps in There were sheets of paper like millions on the ground today For all the good it did them the people chased them here and Across the way Gathered them in piles so many piles to tell us of So many passing days The leaves of hope will fall As the sun sets and rises Wind will blow them all As the tide sweeps in Sun rises and sets And the land fades to grey Head for the light Don’t look for the reasons As hour circles hour And the days fell the seasons
2.
Day has been short and the night will be long Got to turn it around Got a drunken monkey on my back Got red wine in my eyes Got a barstool back There’s no-one coming you know he’s not coming back But that also means there’s no-one holding us back So hold my hand, let’s go out in the air Forget all the things that are holding us here Hold my hand like there was only tonight With the filthy talking and the lies from the lights Day has been short and the night will be long Got to turn this around Seems we can’t get it right ‘cause we don’t know what’s wrong Got to turn it around Got a drunken monkey on my back Got red wine in my eyes Got a barstool back There’s no-one coming you know he’s not coming back But that also means there’s no-one holding us back So hold my hand, let’s go out in the air Forget all the things that are holding us here Hold my hand like there was only tonight With the filthy talking and the lies from the lights

Music maker from Aberdeen in the North East of Scotland, now living in Glasgow.
Since my first collection of skewed, folkish blues songs: ‘Cold But Bright’ I’ve tried to resist the artificial limitations of defining myself as a ‘singer-songwriter’ (admittedly, while writing and singing songs.) This has resulted in attempts to investigate some remoter sonic territories.. As well as more songs. ... more
