about

Back in 2009 when I released ‘Cold But Bright’ I had a launch party and compiled an extra free CD-R to give to those who purchased the album on the night. It was a fairly exclusive deal for them that showed up and forked out! The bonus album was ‘Bright But Cold’ which was a kind of sister album of remixes and remangles of the songs from ‘Cold But Bright.’ I had dispensed the various audio tracks of the different parts – vocals, instruments, percussion etc. - to friends of mine who agreed to take them and turn them into something else entirely. Which they did. There’s even one track that was basically re-recorded. It was covered live in different improvisational versions and then those sessions came back to me to be edited into a song. They didn’t even use the audio files I gave them.

Lately, it seemed a bit of a shame to me that those who came away from that launch clutching a very homemade CD-R would be the only ones who would really hear the efforts of all the imaginations of those that twisted ‘Cold But Bright’ into ‘Bright But Cold’ so I revisited, remastered and in one or two cases remangled and remixed the tracks that were produced in order to reassemble them and make them available to all who are curious enough about the results. Which are as different from each other as they are from ‘Cold But Bright.’

Music maker from Aberdeen in the North East of Scotland, now living in Glasgow.
Since my first collection of skewed, folkish blues songs: ‘Cold But Bright’ I’ve tried to resist the artificial limitations of defining myself as a ‘singer-songwriter’ (admittedly, while writing and singing songs.) This has resulted in attempts to investigate some remoter sonic territories.. As well as more songs. ... more
